Five Fitness Trends You Shouldn't Miss

The pandemic has brought exercise and a healthy lifestyle into even sharper focus. Read which trends will make you fit and happy this summer.

Trend 1: Hybrid workout

Planks in the gym or in the living room? Both. Virtual workouts at home and on-site workouts alternate. Although fitness and yoga studios have long since reopened, many people continue to use online offerings that emerged during the pandemic and offer them a great deal of freedom. The trend toward hybrid training is also observed by Patrick Mayer, manager of Migros Fitnesspark: «Our fitness videos are being used actively. They allow our members to do their workouts from anywhere despite a busy schedule.»

Trend 2: Wearables

Not just smart: the latest generation of fitness gadgets measures heart and breathing rates, blood pressure, temperature, even hydration levels. With the help of these wearables, training progress can be tracked and motivation increased. It is also becoming increasingly important that the gadgets can communicate with each other. «We are seeing this innovation in e-bikes, for example, which can be networked with smartphone apps,» explains Daniel Bader, store manager at M-Way Sihlcity.

Trend 3: Bike Boom

Whether racing bike, spinning bike or e-bike - the bicycle moves Switzerland. «Biking is one of the most popular sports among our customers during the warm season, along with running and fitness training,» says Marco Greco, Head of Marketing Ochsner Sport. Not a new trend, but a sport that is constantly evolving. In particular demand this summer: full-suspension e-bikes and e-bikes with powerful motors.

Trend 4: Holistic Sport

Corona has caused many to rethink their priorities. Health has moved to first place. A steeled body is no longer the primary goal of athletes. Instead, they take a holistic approach in which mental, emotional and spiritual well-being are also important. One sport that combines all of these is yoga. «The trend has been unbroken for several years. But men are now also discovering this sport. The big clothing brands are responding with yoga collections for men, which we are also selling very well,» says Fabian Blöchlinger, Store Manager of WeRun Zurich.

Trend 5: Active Recovery

Active recovery? Sounds like a contradiction, but regeneration is an important key to success. After a strenuous workout, the body should be allowed to rest. «For this reason, all fitness parks always offer a wide range of saunas and baths in addition to numerous workout options,» says Patrick Mayer, manager of Migros Fitnesspark. Light jogging, fascia stretching or stretching are also suitable for recovery training.
